Cadmium Plating St Louis

Those looking to maintain cathodic protection of steel and corrosion resistance would benefit from cadmium plating, although the process can be somewhat high in toxicity. Acting sacrificially so substrate materials won’t corrode quickly, plating this to malleable iron or copper allows preservation of the core material while chromate conversion processes can place protective coatings over plated cadmium. What is Cadmium Plating?

Using an electrolyte solution comprising of cadmium salts formed in vats or barrels, cadmium can be electrodeposited onto substrate (main) metals like steel, copper, iron and other powdered metals. In metal plating cadmium, mechanically energized glass beads deposit cadmium onto substrates through a turning process that mixes metal, water, glass beads and other proprietary chemicals. Vacuum and ion deposition involves heating cadmium until it basically vaporizes, then those vapors ‘sweat’ onto metal which forms a high-quality coating. Passivation is another uncommon cadmium plating method.

Although major automotive manufacturers stopped cadmium plating, many fabricating companies like Commercial Plating Company keep the process alive due to its ability to add anti-corrosive properties to metals.

Purposes of Cadmium Plating

Much like tin, plating cadmium to substrate metals offers superior defense against corrosion while electrodeposited cadmium forms an excellent surface coating when paired with naturally glossy metals. Because of its propensity to sublimation and sporadic formation of whiskers in aerospace metals, cadmium plating is rarely used for space-bound metals.

What Our Customers Are Saying

“Once again, what can I say about your team..As you know, our steel vendor dropped the ball, and turning my parts in less than 10 hours is incredible…Our customer was extremely happy, we didn’t shut down their production facility…That’s why I use CPC, quick turnaround time, fair prices, and quality second to none… Thanks!”

- Glenn

“I wanted to thank you for letting my customer visit your facility, yesterday. As you know, I have been using CPC for just over 2 years, and yesterday was my first visit as well. Anyway, my customer was so impressed with your plating lines, QC lab and equipment, and knowledgeability of your staff, that he has awarded me 2 new stamped parts, that will be coming your way for Nickel Plating…

I can’t thank you enough, and I’m looking forward to expanding our business relationship in the future…”

- Dan D.

“Thank you for plating my parts to display at my recent trade show. I received awesome reviews, and even gave your company’s name out to several people. I was able to obtain several requests for quotes, in which I will likely be awarded the business. I couldn’t have done it without you guys. I guess that’s why you have been in business since 1949.”
