What is Brass Plating?

The process of brass plating entails electrically charged chemical baths which can then deposit thin layers of brass onto various metal objects. Also known as electroplating, the thickness of brass applied to aluminum, copper and other metals depends how long brass is left in the charged bath.

Brass, an alloy of zinc and copper, is most effectively applied when bath temperatures are consistently 95-105 degrees. The bath where electroplating brass takes places is almost always cyanide-based because brass reacts well to cyanide. Other chemical solutions, like alkaline, are also possible.

The process normally takes place in tanks or barrels, with tank-based brass plating most effective for large sheets of metal while barrels work best for smaller objects being plated. Many fabrication shops like Commercial Plating Company work with all metals to give an illustrious patina to items needing a shiny effect.
